MonkeyBar is a coupler system for joining lengths of reinforcing bars used in concrete construction.
MonkeyBars are formed onto the ends of standard dimension steel bars through a forging and milling operation, allowing the two formed ends to interlock.
A standard dimension sleeve tube is then fitted over the coupled joint to create the final interlock.
The primary function of the product is to join reinforcing bars used in vertical elements of high-rise construction or in major civil
construction projects where very large diameter bar is used.
The MonkeyBar coupling system is the only concrete reinforcing product in the world that is ?built in? to the steel reinforcing bar itself.
Independently tested for its compression, tensile and fatigue strength, the MonkeyBar coupling system outperforms all global competitive products
across the critical dimensions of strength, ductility and precision. Existing systems rely on an external steel coupler being fitted to the ends
of the bar (usually through a screw head) impairing the safety of the system.
Status of Innovation:
The MonkeyBar design and production method is finished. Construction of the first production plant is almost completed.
MonkeyBars are scheduled to be commercially available in the 3rd quarter of 2007 in South-East Queensland through existing steel reinforcing bar distributors.
Monkey Steel Pty Ltd is now actively introducing MonkeyBar to major building companies and civil contracting companies.
