The CONE-HEAD is a shock absorbing foam liner for motorcycle helmets, incorporating low-density cone-shaped foam structures within high density foam. The CONE-HEAD liner acts like a crumple zone around the head to absorb and dissipate impact forces more effectively than current liners.
- Low density cones absorb impact force
- Two fused layers: the cone and higher density supportive overlying layer
- The cone layer is divided into five sections of different densities to take into account the different thicknesses and strengths of the skull
- Reduces the rate of deceleration of the head on impact
Status of Innovation:
The final testing is near completion. The technology has been licensed by a major overseas helmet manufacturer. CONE-HEADS will be marketed throughout Australia and New Zealand by early 2009, followed by other overseas markets. The focus will then be on producing other types of helmets.
